Law was passed, but we lack a means of enforcing it. Similar to red light cameras before they were used to deter people from running red lights, there’s no need for police officers. Our system frees officers from minor traffic offenses, making the streets significantly safer and generating revenue for the municipality. If we deter one person with a minimum of $100 ticket per day, it will generate $36,500 for the city. A person is more likely to get into an accident due to a distracted driver than someone drinking and driving. Why do people stop drinking and driving? Because of the steep penalties and cost of DUIs. Why don’t people park at handicap spots? Because it costs an average of $250 once caught in the act. The same should be applied to texting and driving.
